Louis Tomlinson is #2 on Billboard’s Social 50 chart and #7 on the Emerging Artists chart this week (January 19th). Last week, Louis came in at #7 on the Social 50 and #16 on the Emerging Artists chart. His jump up the charts is likely due to his impending single release and interview with The Best Line of Fit, both of which are expected any day now.
The Social 50 is a ranking of the most active artists on the world's leading social networking sites. Artists' popularity is determined by a formula blending their weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with artist page views and weekly song plays, as measured by Next Big Sound.
The Emerging Artists chart is uses the same formula as the Artist 100, which measures artist activity across Billboard's most influential charts, including the Billboard Hot 100, Billboard 200 and the Social 50, among others. The methodology incorporates key metrics of music consumption, blending album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity. The Emerging Artists chart excludes artists that have notched a top 25 entry on either the Hot 100 or Billboard 200, as well as artists that have achieved two or more top 10s on Billboard's "Hot" song genre charts that blend streaming, airplay and sales data and/or consumption-based "Top" album genre rankings.
