The TV show, Peaky Blinders, set in 1920s Birmingham, England in the aftermath of World War I, follows the exploits of the Shelby crime family. The show has won praise for its writing, acting, visual style, and cinematography, but it's also known for the very distinctive fashion and haircuts. Louis Tomlinson has worn a Peaky Blinders-inspired hairstyle, drawing comparisons between him and the blue-eyed actor, Cillian Murphy, whose cut he often sports. Check out this fascinating video from BBC First on how they picked the haircuts for the show and what the reaction initially was when they asked the actors to get the now well-known Peaky cuts!
The cut Louis sometimes sports is closest to the one worn by Thomas Shelby on the show, played by Cillian Murphy. The Tommy Shelby cut, also known as the texturized crop or undercut, it is short on the back and sides of the head with a slightly longer length on top. Plenty of length is left on top, with more length in the fringe to sweep the hair across the front of the face.
If you're attempting it at home, make sure the clipper is set to a number one or two around the back and sides to achieve a contrast between the hair on top. For the fringe you want to keep the hair on top fairly long, around two or three inches would be sufficient to give it the volume and texture. Style with a pomade to sweep your fringe to the side. The fringe can be smooth or tossled a bit like in this picture of Louis below.
Check out this video from Regal Gentleman on how to get the cut. Regal Gentleman also has tips on how to get the Arthur Shelby, John Shelby, or Michael Gray looks from the show as well!
You can check out Louis' Peaky cut in this behind the scenes clip from the Miss You video.
He also sported the cut during the iHeartRadio festival where he performed Back To You with Bebe Rexha.
Here's another good shot of the cut from when Louis performed Miss You on the X Factor Finale last year.
