LTHQOfficial.com reached out to X Factor contestant Brendan Murray to get more insights into what it’s like being mentored by Louis Tomlinson.
Brendan, part of Louis’ boys category, affectionately called Team Tommo, isn’t a complete stranger to the music industry. In 2014, he became a member of the Irish boyband Hometown, managed by a different Louis…former X Factor judge Louis Walsh. The band had some chart success in Ireland before going on indefinite hiatus in December 2016.
Around the same time, Brendan became the Irish representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017, but just missed the top ten, placing 13th. At the urging of his parents, who wanted him to have a fallback career, he became a plumber, but confessed during the footage on this Saturday’s X Factor show that he wasn’t great at it.
After Brendan auditioned for X Factor this summer, Louis Tomlinson, who was given the Boys category to mentor, gave him a “safe seat” during the Six Chair Challenge, earning Brendan a guaranteed spot at the Judge’s House.
In Ibiza, Brendan notoriously made guest judge Nile Rodgers cry during the Judge’s House auditions when he sang Nothing Compares 2 U.
Despite his early success on X Factor, during the second week of live shows, Brendan found himself in the bottom three and had to compete in a sing-off with LMA Choir. Before the tense sing-off, Louis was seen counseling Brendan.
After the sing-off, the vote was split between the judges, with Louis and Ayda voting for Brendan to stay and Robbie and Simon voting against him, resulting in a deadlock. The decision reverted back to the earlier public votes. Brendan received more votes and was safe to continue on to the next round. The following week, Brendan and the rest of Louis’ boys were safe and Louis and Brendan took some time to thank everyone who voted.
LTHQOfficial.com: What’s it like having Louis as a mentor?
Brendan: I couldn’t ask for a better mentor to be honest. He’s very hands on and is dedicated to his category. He puts in a lot of time for us which is amazing and the fact that he’s gone through X factor before, I think he knows the right formula to go far in the competition. An absolute gentleman ❤️❤️❤️
Brendan’s pretty busy today since it’s the results show tonight, but we’ll bring you Part 2 of our interview on November 17th!
