Just Like You

Former One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson chooses the pub over the club on his new single, "Just Like You." The song has a snappy beat with synths that swell to a wobbling instrumental hook. The production complements Tomlinson's polished vocals and lyrics about how he grapples with everyday highs and lows. - Rolling Stone

About "Just Like You":

"Just Like You" was released as a promotional single October 11, 2017. The song was written by Louis, Jesse Thomas, and Matthew Burns and produced by Burns. "Just Like You" was the third solo release by Louis, but the first that featured no other artists. The song is slated to appear on Louis' debut solo album. The Lyric Video was released October 17, 2017. The Lyric Video received praise for featuring topics such as feminism, LGBTQ+ issues, Black Lives Matter, the Harvey Weinstein scandal, and mental health in the articles that appeared in the background of the lyrics.

"I wrote [this single] a few months ago. After a few conversations with the label, I told them that I wanted to release it. My next single will be a bit later this year, but I wanted to share this with you now." - Louis via Twitter

"[I'm really attached to Just Like You] which is all about this view of celebrities, that we’re impenetrable and almost not human, but fundamentally; we all have the same problems. Heartbreak feels the same, loss feels the same, all these feelings are the same for all of us. Mine just look a load different to, maybe, Tom who works in the chippy from nine to five." - Louis for BBC

A few of the articles featured in the video that discuss women, people of color, LGBT issues, feminism, Black Lives Matter, and mental health:

Just Like You Lyrics

[Verse 1]
It's the guy from the one band
Cigarette in my left hand
Whole world in my right hand
25 and it's all planned
Night out and it's ten grand
Headlines that I can't stand

[Pre-Chorus]
But you only get half of the story
The cash, and the cars and the glory
No sleep and we party 'til morning
'Cause nobody cares when you're boring

[Chorus]
I'm just like you
Even though my problems look nothing like yours do
Yeah, I get sad too
And when I'm down I need somebody to talk to
Yeah, I feel the same as you do
Same stress, same shit to go through
I'm just like you
If you only knew

[Verse 2]
If I had it my way, pub lunch every Sunday
Cheap beer and it's okay
I wanna lay where she lays
I wanna stay in these days
Gonna smoke and it's okay

[Pre-Chorus]
But you only get half of the story
The cash, and the cars and the glory
Just like everyone else here before me
'Cause nobody cares when you're boring

[Chorus]
I'm just like you
Even though my problems look nothing like yours do
Yeah, I get sad too
And when I'm down I need somebody to talk to
Yeah, I feel the same as you do
Same stress, same shit to go through
I'm just like you
If you only knew

[Post-Chorus]
I'm just like you
When I need somebody to talk to
I'm just like you
When I need somebody to talk to

[Bridge]
Every heart breaks the same
Every tear leaves a stain
Can't I just be the same?
Every heart breaks the same
Every tear leaves a stain
Let me be the same

[Chorus]
I'm just like you
Even though my problems look nothing like yours do
Yeah I get sad too
And when I'm down I need somebody to talk to
Yeah, I feel the same as you do
Same stress, same shit to go through
I'm just like you
If you only knew

[Post-Chorus]
I'm just like you
When I need somebody to talk to
I'm just like you
When I need somebody to talk to

[Outro]
If you only knew

Just Like You
