Tonight’s theme was Big Band and with only a few shows left, the stakes were higher than ever. A thirty-piece band was backing the contestants tonight.
Up first was Scarlett singing Can’t Take My Eyes Off You by Frankie Valli.
Brendan was next. In the pre-taped clip, Brendan talked to Louis about the competition and how they were going to a football game. Brendan admitted it was his first time going to a game. Brendan sang Say Something by A Great Big World. Simon liked the staging and the lighting and said it was the perfect song and that he respected how Brendan takes some knocks from the judges, but comes out every week. Nile loved his voice. Louis said Brendan is one of the hardest working contestants and that he’s gotten a lot of knocks from the judges. Louis said he picked the song and then Simon fought about that with him, claiming he suggested the song, but Louis insisted it was his choice.
Shan sang Summertime by Billie Holiday. Louis said he didn’t love it last week, but she smashed it this week.
Anthony was next. Anthony was excited to meet Wayne Rooney when they went to the football game.
Anthony sang Beyond the Sea by Bobby Darin. Anthony sang it 11 years ago when he auditioned for the show (and Simon didn’t like it and told him he needed singing lessons).
Simon liked the swag confidence Anthony needed to sell the song. He said people are liking him so much he has a shot of being in the finals.
Louis liked that people got to see how long Anthony’s been working at this and Louis said he’s so proud of him. Anthony wanted to come down to hug Louis, but Dermot stopped him to ask a question and Louis came up onstage to hug him.
Next was Acacia and Aaliyah. They sang an original song ‘Act Our Age’. The song wasn’t big band at all as Ayda commented. Louis said the vocals weren’t perfect but it was a great performance and called them “little stars”.
Bella sang Strong by London Grammar (with an original rap). Louis didn’t think it was the right song. He said she has a future in the industry, but that it just wasn’t the right song. Nile and Ayda agreed.
Dalton sang Listen by Beyonce. Louis called him the most consistent contestant.
Dalton got a standing ovation and the crowd just wouldn’t stop cheering. Louis said he would be shocked if Dalton wasn’t in the finals. He said, “You are incredible mate.”
