Episode 9 was the start of the Six Chair Challenge - the brutal elimination round where each performer got a chance to win one of the six seats in their category, but they risked losing their spot if a judge liked a different performer better. Saturday’s show focused on the Girls and Overs category.
Louis greeted the crowd with a “get rowdy!” Kleo was first and got a chair. Georgia was next singing Happy. Louis said, “Georgia, I think that was a brilliant take on that song.” She got a chair.
April from Amsterdam was next to get a seat after singing Angels by Robbie Williams. Ava sang Perfect, a One Direction song that Louis wrote on. Simon complimented Louis on the song, saying, “It’s a great song.”
Ava’s rendition earned her a spot in one of the chairs.
17 year old Maria was next singing Queen of the Night by Whitney Houston and she earned a seat as well. Sephy sang Never Enough doing her high/low duo with herself and got a spot.
Bella was next singing a Stormzy song where she also rapped. Louis said, “Thank you because my pet hate is every Tom, Dick, and Harry thinking they can rap but you should be rapping. I think you’re the full package and I’d definitely, definitely give you a seat.” Simon said he couldn’t give her a seat and Louis cried, “Noooooo.” The audience booed and Simon stood up and said “I want to tell you why.” Then, he walked over to the golden buzzer and hit it, giving Bella an automatic pass through to the Judge’s House. Louis said, “You had me fooled there!” Kleo lost her seat to Bella.
They switched to the Overs, being mentored by Ayda. Ola was first and got a chair after singing Mambo #5. Anthony Monarch was next and got a seat as well. Cezar the opera singer got a “wow” from Louis, who also said, “You stepped up, you grabbed everyone’s attention. I think it was absolutely amazing, lad, well done.” Cezar got a seat.
Jacqueline sang and got a seat and Louis teased Ayda saying, “Running out of seats soon.”
Burgandy sang I’m Every Woman and got a seat.
Claire sang Bridge Over Troubled Water and got a seat.
Ricky was next with all seats full. He sang Try a Little Tenderness. Louis said, “Your potential is scary. That was incredible.” Ayda gave Ricky the golden buzzer and Anthony Monarch was out of a seat.
They flipped back to Simon and the Girls category with 5 girls to go. Lanya was next. Louis said, “The fact that you pulled out that vocal at seventeen is unbelievable. In my opinion, you deserve a seat.” She got a seat and April was out. Jennifer was next singing an original called Fly. Simon stopped her and asked her to sing acapella. Robbie said about Simon, “If Spongebob Squarehead doesn’t put you through, I would like to cover your song, please.” Louis smiled at Robbie’s joke.
Simon gave her a seat and kicked Maria out but then called her back and swapped her for Ava. Louis said, “It’s a shame.”
Shan was next. She got a seat and Simon asked her to replace Georgia but Georgia asked to sing another song. Georgia was not going down without a fight and Louis said, “Hustler” because he liked her fighting spirit. Louis said, “That is incredible, right. You came out fighting. If it was me, I’d snap you right up and get you a seat.” Georgia stayed and Lanya was out.
Molly was next and gave a powerful performance after Simon asked the 16 year old if she really wanted to go through this and she said yes. Louis said, “Now it just got even harder.” Simon gave her a seat and Sephy lost hers.
Louis had a laugh at Simon’s predicament saying, “And Scarlett’s still to come.”
They flipped back to Ayda and the Overs. Antonino was up. He got a seat replacing Jacqueline. Ivo was up next. Shockingly Ayda gave Ivo, the quirky performer, a seat replacing Antonino. Louis said, “It’s brutal.” Panda was up next. She didn’t choose a good song, but Ayda gave her a seat replacing a devastated Ivo. Louise was up and did great, earning a seat and kicking Panda out.
They flipped back to Simon and the girls again. Scarlett was up. Louis said, “Scarlett, that was incredible. Absolutely incredible. I know you didn’t get the news you wanted last year but I’m quietly confident for you this year.” Simon thought she oversang but gave her a chair. The episode ended on a cliffhanger with Simon saying there would be a sing-off to determine the final result.
